Small Home Office Upgrades
If you are anything like me and can’t work in a space that feels stale and uninspiring, then, you’ve come to the right place. Especially in the age of WFH, we’re spending a lot of time doing work in your own space and it should feel fresh and make you feel productive.
I’m either a procrastinator or just OCD but I always feel the need to clean my space before I can sit down to work. A clean space means a clear mind. It also helps to minimize distractions by putting things out of sight. I really love these organizer bins from Ikea to not only hide things like cables and cords and they also bring a nice soft texture to the space.
Another really great piece for upgrading your office is adding in shelving. This can be used to display books, photos, art, trinkets, or even plants. Especially plants! Shelving is a great investment because not only does it serve its purpose as a functional organization piece, it can also be used as a beautiful gallery and it’s so easy to change items around to give the shelf new life. If you have it in your budget to buy shelving, I’ve linked below some pieces I’m really loving. If you’re game to DIY, we made a track shelving unit for less than $100 here.
Now that the office space is good to go, we’ll move on to the place where you’re actually going to sit: your desk. Whether this is your dining room table or an actual office desk, let’s make sure you are comfortable. If your back is hurting, invest in a good chair. Also, there is no shame in getting yourself a nice seat cushion or a lumbar support pad. If your neck is aching, get a riser for your monitor. If your wrists are pinching, make sure you have enough desk space between you and the keyboard. If you have it in your budget to invest in ergonomic office items (such as a chair, keyboard or mouse), then it might be worth the investment.
We sit at our desks for almost a third of our day, and if your desk is uncomfortable or your space is uninspiring then it’s time for a reset and refresh.
